So you guys feel "threatened" and "attacked" by anyone who doesn't share your belief in God (ie, atheists)? Again, then, why on earth are you on a forum for critical thinking and skepticism? If you can't take the heat... etc. Dear Zak: I'm not the least bit threatened by your statements, as you are very well aware. Lily is here because she has FRIENDS here. Is friendship that foreign a concept to you? Honestly, what you've said in the above quote is really unworthy of you. --Debutante

The first thing you have to be able to do (if you want to have a serious debate about on any important issue) is avoid making it personal, or interpreting the other person's views as an attack on you personally. If you read my posts in this threat you will see that I have not made any personal attacks against anyone. You, on the other hand - and Lily to a lesser extent - have personalized the issue. I think it's fair to conclude that you are incapable of discussing any important subject without personalizing it. That being the case, it might be better for all concerned if you didn't take part in discussions of a serious or contentious nature, and instead stuck to discussions about mundane domestic events (which seems to be what you are most comfortable with anyway).

I really don't want to be around when your increasingly enlarging ego results in your head exploding. Then I'll have to discuss comparing laundry detergent with my housewifely friends here. P.S. Give me a break about not personalizing issues. But that explains it. You don't really see us a people at all do you? Just text on a screen.

I'm sure Debs will have a long and convoluted detergent-related story to tell you involving a missing heirloom, an eccentric relative, a sinister stalker and a ghostly apparition.

And she'd do a really good job at it. By the way, I've been forgetting to mention that there are three forums on FACTS for a reason. There's the main board which is the same as the old board for discussions on typical skeptic topics, the conversation board for friendly talk and fun links. And there is the politics and rants board. Yes, there is some cross-over but they do have their own purposes. Even for discussing laundry detergents. There's no real reason one must feel forced to participate in any one of them if that's not one's taste.

Well, the thread started when Deb posted "Happy Easter to our believers!"
Not just a simple "Happy Easter!" She added "to our believers," and then added "Happy Spring to our skeptics!" This gave the comment a contentious "political" dimension. She was basically implying that only Christians were entitled to celebrate Easter, while non-believers were only entitled to celebrate Spring.
Would you really expect me, as a practicing atheist, to resist pointing out that Easter was actually a pagan festival?

Oh, no. I'm not biting. As far as I'm concerned this topic is closed. You all want to keep going, then get a room.
And I'll be back when it's finally over.

They should just rename it National Chocolate Day, and then there'd be no arguments.

Well, I hope you guys had a lot of fun and that it was worth it. Happy nothing! You really think you're posting some new information that we haven't heard of ever before? This isn't a Christian site that you're trolling. We happen to be regular members who post and contribute and there's no excuse for your rudeness. You make it seem there are so many members here and it's just fine to diss us and never mind there'll be many more to come and participate in our place. Well, good for you. Guess you'll find this rude, too. You're way too sensitive, & a person whose belief is strong has no reason to get so prickly. Of course, that's something I truly like about you. You're very interesting & nice. No offense meant & I hope none was taken.

I said I'm a practicing atheist, not a practicing pagan. Although many pagans are atheists anyway. And you did make a distinction between "believers" and "skeptics".

But one thing I do know--this entire thing was pointless to begin with and is not getting any better.

Dear Zak: Yes, I realized I misread it and deleted the post to correct it. True....but believers covers a lot of ground. And I did wish the atheists a happy spring (because as Raybar pointed out some do celebrate on that day). --Debutante

Dear Joan:
No -- you don't want them to elope. You've earned the right to "tears in your eyes" when you see their happiness!
I can't wait to see pictures!

Debutante wrote >I've never heard anything about the 12 Kings thing before and it's quite interesting... Do you recall where you read it?
I've read many books about the history of Christianity in the 1st century, so I don't remember exactly which ones said what, but these two are probably the most likely to discuss the Jewish beliefs in the end of time and the return of heaven on earth. Jesus: Apocalyptic Prophet of the New Millennium Bart D. Ehrman ]
When Jesus Became God: The Struggle to Define Christianity during the Last Days of Rome Richard Rubinstein
Like I said, it was a popular belief for a conquered people who yearned for a return to their mythic past days of glory. Not only would Israel be free again, but it's king would be the ruler of all other nations on earth. There were many other religious leaders, aside from Jesus, who stepped up and claimed to be the awaited Messiah, beginning in 200 BCE or thereabouts. Jesus was by no means the first or the last. These men were also credited with healing the sick, raising the dead, etc., by their followers. The Romans killed them early and often, at least according to surviving writings of the time. And usually killed their followers, too. When they could catch them.

Dear Lily: You know...I was wondering why Dawn didn't pull the plug on us a couple of pages ago. --Debutante Because I wasn't paying attention and trusted you all to have an adult conversation without getting upset. I will move this thread to the 'debate' section since that's what it's turned into. Remember, it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Cheers, The Help
