Speaking of "religious freedom" laws and politicians posturing during an election year without regard to the consequences of the nonsense they're saying and doing, consider Mississippi.
"A bill is being considered to legally protect people against being compelled to take any action against their religion." - CNN
Join the Church of Fred today! We believe that it's a sin to pay taxes of any kind. As soon as Mississippi passes this law, we're moving there and we shall depend on the state to protect us from the IRS. (Other sins will be added later, as needed, to avoid doing whatever we don't want to do.) Anarchy? Nay, religious freedom. 8->
Stupid politicians don't seem to care that their "religious freedom" laws targeting gays would create chaos in the land, as the members of each religion or denomination discriminated against their neighbors for drinking coffee (Mormons), drinking alcohol (Baptists), using birth control (Catholics), eating meat (Seven Day Adventists), etc. Sorry, Joe. We can't sell you any gasoline unless you acknowledge the authority of the Pope. Sorry, Bill, we're going to evict you because you haven't been going to church on Sundays. Sorry, Debbie, we going to fire you because we found out that you lit a fire on the Sabbath. all legal under those type of laws. Grrr. Stupid politicians.
