Pretty -- and yet, I have to admit that as the examples grew larger, I asked myself if I'd like the view. Weirdly, when I really thought about it -- the bigger the object became, the more I realized I'd feel vaguely threatened with it hanging over my head.
But I wonder if that has more to do with what I'm used to -- I guess if you grew up with a huge planet hanging overhead, you'd think it was normal and it wouldn't bother you.
But it was very interesting.

I know Bob said it was beautiful, and it was. But truthfully I found it rather frightening. For some reason that's been one of my fears since I can remember, a gigantic moon or planet creeping over the horizon of the earth. It makes me wonder if I might have experienced this on another planet in a past life. Did you ever see the movie "Melancholia'?

If you think a huge planet in the moon's orbit "hanging over your head" would be disconcerting, what about all the moons those planets would bring with them? Jupiter and Saturn each have over 60 moons each, for example, and earth would constantly have all these moons rushing past. Except for Dione --- 1.3 times the diameter of the moon, 1.5 times its mass, and the same distance (on center) from Saturn as the moon is from earth --- which would crash right into us.

Dear Lily:
No I haven't seen it -- but my husband did and he told me about the film. I was glad I sat that one out at home!
Dear Raybar:
I try not to think about things like that unless I go read the Above Top Secret board. They've got a group of people who believe in Nibiru and every once in awhile they go off on how everyone is going to die when it crashes into the Earth. It's rather creepy to think about. Thus I try to remain in blissful ignorance as much as possible!

In the case of Nibiru, you can be blissfully certain that it does not exist.

Dear Raybar:
Thank you for telling me that!!! If you read the Above Top Secret board long enough -- you get really paranoid. And I sort of wondered if it was true...
