I'm more than a little irritated over the latest Geico commercial. When my children were very little -- the local police department would frequently come to the school to interact with the school kids so that they could develop the attitude that the police were there for them. One of the things they used was "McGruff" a cartoon police dog who "took a bite out of crime". The kids would come home with McGruff flyers (wherein McGruff would give them tips on how to protect themselves). I'm pretty sure they saw McGruff anti-crime films too. It was a cute way for the police to get the children to pay attention to things they wanted them to learn that would keep them safe. I do not know if the police still use "McGruff" when teaching little kids. But I am distressed to see that this symbol is being used by Geico -- and in a very stupid way. Why do they have to take this symbol that the police have used effectively and make it into something stupid? Can't they just leave something wonderful alone? My kids learned a lot from our village police and "McGruff" when they were little. I am glad this stupid commercial wasn't around when they were little. My kids believed what "McGruff" taught them. What little kid would believe a "McGruff" that isn't respected? I plan to write Geico a letter telling them how disappointed I am. And that they need to bring back their gekkco. www.ispot.tv/ad/whpq/geico-mcgruff-fights-baby-talk--Debutante

Yeah, I thought that was really stupid, too.
