It baffles me when people read scripture as if it were the literal Word of God and avoid learning anything about science – or biblical scholarship - as if it came directly from the lips Satan.
Mastropaolo seems to be getting his hunting technique from old western movies. Imagine Gabby Hayes saying, “We’ve got ‘em now, boys, that there’s a box canyon.” Yeah, like there’s going to be a canyon right where you need it every time. And maybe he should try herding cats first.
He’s watching the wrong movies. The correct way to catch a T-rex, as shown in one of those 50s movies like “The Land That Time Forgot” or “Journey to the Center of the Earth” (or some such) is by lassoing it from horseback. Or, if you happen to be in Dinotopia, you can run it down while riding tame triceratopses. Or, you can just get King Kong to do the dirty work for you.

No, Pat. He's not kidding, and he's not the only one who believes that man lived along side every now-extinct species ever found, that the world is less than 10,000 years old, that the Grand Canyon was carved out of the earth by Noah's flood, etc.
They are dead serious and also dead wrong, and they are pushing their ignorance and superstition on their children to the point of child abuse.

"Mastropaolo said he's confident he will be keeping his money."
He should have offered a million.
"This guy is so ignorant that he probably shouldn't be allowed to stay home alone, lest he hurt himself trying to fly off the roof using a sheet for wings."
That's hilarious Fred! :-D
"herding cats"
I would love to! And a cheer for Gabby Hayes reference ray!

This seemed familiar, and I am pretty sure that I was aware of its previous incarnation, the Life Sciences Prize. But no, I hadn't heard anything about it before today.

"herding cats" I would love to! And a cheer for Gabby Hayes reference ray! In response to some small discourtesy to his character in (probably) a Roy Rogers film, Gabby once said "That's no way to talk to a man who fought and died for his country." I say this occasionally when an opportunity arises. It never fails to confuse people.

Joan - I always liked Gabby Hayes better than John Wayne, Roy Rogers or Gene Autry - when he played their "sidekick". Are you aware of all the Gabby Hayes videos on YouTube. 8->
Pat - Yes, the Catholic Church officially accepted evolution and most other such Bible things as "metaphors" many years ago. Among Christians of the world only a small minority, possibly only 25% or so, are fundamentalists - those who believe that everything in the Bible is literally true. Unfortunately, in the US fundamentalists run more like 35-45% of the population. And those people have a disproportionate representation among those in power. In Texas, the Gov (Rick Perry) and most other high-ranking state officials are fundamentalists. So the 3rd (or fourth) most populous state in the nation is controlled by people who's knowledge of science is stuck at 1840. Sigh.
