According to Searle in "Rationality in Action", there are "gaps" in human activity. The main gap is between what he calls a "prior intention" and the "intention-in-action." Let's say that you make a New Year's Resolution to exercise more. But when the time comes to exercise, you don't. The prior intention is not sufficient to cause the action. The intention-in-action is sufficient, but it never gets off the ground.

I have that problem. What can I do about actually acting on my intentions?

I have that problem. What can I do about actually acting on my intentions? Try self-hypnosis. It worked for me. Bob

The problem with hypnosis is that it only works when you believe in it, apparently.

I don't really know what self hypnosis is. Is it like meditating? I think I could use some help here.

I don't really know what self hypnosis is. Is it like meditating? I think I could use some help here. Not like meditation at all. I bought this book on Amazon: "Instant Self-Hypnosis: How to Hypnotize Yourself with Your Eyes Open" by Forbes Robbins Blair. He was a hypnotist and he printed out the instructions so he could simply read them to clients. While reading those instructions out loud, he found himself going under! Every now and then, I get a client who just wants me to record their reading and send it to them. I had a terrible time with these. I would talk for 5 or 10 minutes and then take a break. Then a few minutes later I would take another break. Etc., etc. I was always late sending the recordings to them. I tried this method and I breeze through the readings on time. It worked for me. Bob
