I have it on good authority - oh, all right, the Jehovah's Witnesses left a flyer at my door - that Tuesday 26 March (sometime after sundown) will be the 1980th anniversay of Christ's death on the cross. I am invited "to meet with them on that date to examine what makes Jesus - and his sacrifice - so vitally important."
I suppose they left flyers all over the neighborhood, but, in my case, they clearly have no idea who they're inviting into Kingdom Hall on Tuesday.

Wonder why they picked that number - 1980th? Seems like they would stick with tradition and say that Jesus was killed in 33 CE, or thereabouts. So 2013 minus 33 equals 1970. Curious. You should go and ask them to show you where in the Bible a date is given for the death of Jesus. 8-D

Hey, that's why I was an English major. 8-> Of course, when I was drafted, the Army, with its wacky sense of humor, sent me to Artillery Intelligence - where I was supposed to learn how to aim artillery shells using trigonometry and logarithms. And they blame the press for Vietnam. Hah!
Anyway, they don't do the full quote from Matthew: 51: And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom; and the earth shook, and the rocks were split; 52: the tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, 53: and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.
So what they should be looking for is a day when there was an earthquake AND a zombie invasion. If one didn't happen, then neither did the other. LOL.
