And you haven't read anything by Rand or Hicks. So we're even, Poser.
And you haven't even bothered to give a direct quote from Kant either.

And you haven't read anything by Rand or Hicks. I've read Hicks' entire bullshit book on postmodernism, complete with examining his footnotes, that's a day in my life that I'm never going to get back. I feel no need to read any more drivel written by Rand cultists.

Wow! A whole day. You must read really fast.
Perhaps that's why you made the mistake of claiming that Hicks only made one quote in his entire book when in fact he made plenty. Try reading more carefully next time.
And of course you didn't support your comment that it is "drivel" with any actual quotes or analysis. Once again, why should you expect anyone to accept what you say without giving evidence?

It's a skill you acquire when most of your assignments at university consist of reading a lot of books. That said, Hicks's writing isn't really very complex, and he repeats himself a lot. I can see how you'd be drawn to a book like this, especially in light of it being written by a fellow Rand cultist.

All of that says nothing about why you think Hicks' ideas are wrong. You do have actual reasons for your conclusions, don't you? Bob

So have you read anything by Kant yet?
Are you claiming that you cannot for an accurate idea of what someone views by reading quotes and excerpts?
And you still haven't explained why you think Hicks' ideas are wrong.

I'm claiming that you haven't read Kant.
Am I correct?

I read excerpts and quotes. Of course if you think my conclusions based on these are wrong, feel free to give your own quotes to refute them.

I read excerpts and quotes. So, you haven't.

I read excerpts and quotes. So, you haven't. Right. Are you claiming that you can't learn about what someone wrote by reading quotes?
Are you also claiming that the Kant quotes I posted were wrong in any way?

Right. Are you claiming that you can't learn about what someone wrote by reading quotes? Yes, I am in fact claiming that. Using disparate quotes as your sole knowledge of a person's writing paints an incomplete and misleading picture.
This goes doubly for quotes translated from a foreign language you don't read.
You can't even verify their accuracy, since you don't know what they were supposed to mean originally.

Well then you should have no problem pointing out why those quotes are false an that the author actually had different beliefs.
Do you have any such evidence?
