Twenty-six years ago, we bought our house. The builder had installed an island cooktop stove which, has served us well over the years.
A week ago, while cleaning the cooktop (I took it apart to do deep cleaning) -- I noticed that the insulation wrap over the wires of the burner cartridges had worn away. I didn't feel the appliance was safe anymore and informed my husband we needed to buy a new cooktop.
We called a few places, but nobody was interested in helping us unless we guaranteed that we'd install new countertops throughout the kitchen along with a new cooktop stove. The countertops are in perfect condition and of course, we weren't happy with the prospect of doing massive remodeling.
It so happens, that earlier this week I was involved in cleaning out my kitchen drawers and cabinets. As part of the pull it all out, sort it, wash it, clean the cabinet, return everything to the cabinet process -- I had come upon the original paperwork for the existing stove. It's a brand that I'd never really heard of before I bought our house and I don't believe I've ever seen it in an actual store. Anyhow...this twenty-six year old documentation had been saved (primarily because I keep all appliance information).
I went and got the booklet and really looked at it for the first time since I've had the appliance. I discovered that burner cartridges could be ordered (at least twenty-six years ago) to replace any that were not operating properly. I absolutely doubted that these items could be obtained after all this time, but for the heck of it -- I decided to give the company a call.
I discovered something AMAZING. It seems Jenn-Aire has a policy to standardize all their things. In short, not only were cartridges available -- but there were (after all this time) several different choices -- some considerably more modern in appearance. So, I was able to purchase two black glass top cartridges to replace the existing coil and tray burner cartridges. The photo (online) to which, the company directed me, looked sleek. Certainly, these would be far easier to clean than my rather dated old ones.
It seemed too good to be true -- but I pulled out the plastic and ordered them, hoping for the best. They arrived a half hour ago. It took me 30 seconds to unplug the old ones. It took me 30 seconds to put in the new ones. Instant "new stove"! Since I'd always taken care of the appliance -- once the new cartridges were in -- the cooktop looks brand new. But most amazing of all -- it works!!! I ran a test on the cooktop and it's functioning perfectly.
I have to say that this product (the Jenn-Aire cooktop) has exceeded any expectations I ever had regarding an appliance of this type. I was also told that if the day ever comes when I need to replace the framework -- these new cartridges would fit a new Jenn-Aire. Plus, because this company makes sure that their sizes are standardized....I won't ever have to replace my kitchen countertops unless I want to.
Why am I writing this? Because I am so FLABBERGASTED that a company went out of their way to make things easier for their customers. I'm not kidding when I tell you that every other brand of stove we checked into wanted to redo our entire kitchen as a remodel (which, is not necessary at all!)
Thus, I recommend this company (something I don't often do) to anyone who needs this type of appliance.
