An editorial that I think is accurate. She is a dangerous woman, who does not understand much about science or medicine, yet influences millions of people to do things that put their children in danger. And now she's going to be on The View, instead of being in jail for all the people she's damaged and killed. Pretty depressing. Sigh. www.cnn.com/2013/07/17/opinion/perry-jenny-mccarthy-autism/index.html?hpt=hp_t4

Through her ignorance, she has been responsible for convincing many people to risk their children's health and lives. There are dead children because of her. Possibly thousands. Granted, she didn't kill them on purpose, but she is nonetheless responsible. So what should the punishment be for accidentally killing a large number of children? What if she had been driving recklessly and had run a school bus off the road, killing 100 kids? Wouldn't she be arrested for that? And how is that different from talking recklessly and killing 1,000 kids? Maybe not the same. But at the very least she should not be allowed to keep her wealth and fame because of all the suffering and misery she has encouraged.

No time now to research this -- house guests require entertainment. But I would be very interested in seeing an article or several about what McCarthy has said and what happen as result, if anyone has links to hand.
I really know nothing about her activities in this area. I get my information from professionals in the field, not celebrities.

A threat and scary, without a doubt. Glad she is so trained in science and medicine. Leaving children unprotected from diseases that are preventable, with proven safe vaccines that prevent illness, is poor parenting and leaves children exposed to conditions that are not insignificant events.....and allows the potential for further illness as adults....shingles come to mind. Many tv shows are marketed for younger adults, many with no medical or scientific training and sometimes unaware of where to find accurate and up to date information. What the heck, it has been spoken by this beautiful, rich woman who has a child impacted....she must be RIGHT! It's a difficult issue to deal with. Parents do have the right to refuse vaccinations, though I'm not sure public and/or private schools allow unvaccinated children enrollment. Maybe something new will strike her fancy and her untrained and unscientific mind will wander away from the vaccine issue. Heaven help those who will be impacted by whatever the new "cause" will be. Parents refusing appropriate medical care for their children can face legal issues....wonder if this will happen with vaccines....

I'm certain that the other hosts on The View will not let this topic go unchallenged if it does come up. Or any other questionable viewpoints.

Totally new cast on The View. Joy Behar will be gone (she is my favorite), Elizabeth Hasselbeck will be gone & Barbara, who is only on part-time anyway, will be gone next year.
Fred: "Through her ignorance, she has been responsible for convincing many people to risk their children's health and lives. There are dead children because of her. Possibly thousands. Granted, she didn't kill them on purpose, but she is nonetheless responsible."
I never thought I'd say this to Fred: That's ridiculous. Prove, or attempt to, that there are possibly Thousands of Dead Children because of Jenny McCarthy. Just plain silly, I can't get over you saying this Fred.

McCarthy has been an anti-vaccine activist since 2007, going on TV to tell parents that vaccinations cause autism. A study found 24 percent of parents placed "some trust" in information on vaccine safety from celebrities like Jenny McCarthy. Here's an old article from TIME. healthland.time.com/2011/04/26/jenny-mccarthy-vaccine-expert-a-quarter-of-parents-trust-celebrities/McCarthy is, in fact, the lead spokesperson in the US for a discredited movement that has convinced thousands of parents around the world not to get vaccinations for their kids. Outbreaks of formerly rare diseases have occurred because of this movement, damaging and killing many children. I can't connect JM on a 1-1 basis for any deaths, but several thousand children have died because of the anti-vaccination movement. And least some of these deaths can be directly attributed to her many TV appearances, her book, etc. Don't know how many, but there have been thousands of kid deaths around the world so it seems reasonable that at least a couple of thousand are directly her fault. The fact is that when she promotes her woo-woo beliefs on TV, it kills kids. That's provable. The exact number doesn't matter.

The fact is Fred, the parents of the children are responsible here, the parents themselves are where any blame should be placed. There are no laws concerning stupid parents or stupid people. They could never be enforced anyway.
I would blame, if I may, the TV shows & other media that gain advertising money by pushing contraversial issues merely for the sake of gain. I would blame those in control of media who "stir things up" to gain a larger audience. People with bad, harmful ideas exist; it is the motivation of those who provide the platforms I would question.

Agreed that the entertainment and news companies have a lot to answer for. One of the deals that networks made for cheap radio and TV channels years ago was that they would provide news to serve the public interest. Then news became a subset of each company's entertainment division and ratings became the prime goal. Goodby news, hello breathless updates on celebrity gossip. Sigh
And agreed that parents are ultimately responsible. But, like the other facets of our world, health and science education in the US is pretty poor. People can only make intelligent decisions if they have the background knowledge. And they don't.
But we have to draw lines somewhere. Children can be removed from their parents when they endanger them through neglect or abuse. Maybe we should include stupidity as another valid cause. 8->
