That's my verdict on the George Zimmerman trial. Hell with guns! Without his gun, the little man would never have followed the Black teenager. He'll probably have to leave the country.

No longer will I walk after dark in my neighborhood to get exercise without the hot sun There is one neighbor who has a iron rod fence, a mail box that has the outline of a gun that says "Second Amendment". And a U.S. flag and some other kind of flag and the photo of a growling guard dog on the fence. Should I be afraid of walking past that house? This verdict says I darn right shouid!!! And what should we do if frightened? Call the police and wait for them to arrive!!! What is so difficult about that?

Just hope you're not the wrong color walking down the street in your neighborhood. Of course, call the police. Not too long ago there was some kind of party in my neighborhood. There was an audible fight. Police was called and they came and the folks scattered. I was watching from my window. I didn't see anything of the fight but I heard fists flying. No one was shot!!! I cry for my country. I really do.

Although the entire legal establishment would deny it, the actual guilt or innocence of the accused is nearly irrelevant. Verdicts are based on the evidence presented at trial, not on what really happened. A guilty verdict doesn't he did it, and a not guilty verdict doesn't mean he didn't do it. We would like to think that a trial is an attempt to find the truth, but it's really more like a debating contest.
==========
Based on what little I know about this case from the news, not always a reliable source, Zimmerman's actions seem questionable at best.
--- Neighborhood watch is supposed to watch. They are not supposed to act. If there is a problem they are supposed to call the police, not try to handle it themselves.
--- Neighborhood watch typically patrol in groups, or at least in pairs. Never alone.
--- It is appropriate for neighborhood watch to follow someone who is acting suspiciously or seems "out of place." But they should observe from a distance. It is not appropriate for them to confront anyone or interfere with someone's free movement.
Zimmerman appears to have violated these basic principles. He was out alone. He did confront (or at least speak to) Martin. He did not call the police.
Was he a neighborhood watch or a neighbor bully?
Regardless of the legalities, and regardless of the precise chain of events between Zimmerman first spotting Martin and the gunshot, I blame Zimmerman because his actions precipitated the incident. If he had followed proper neighborhood watch procedures, nothing would have happened.
(Again, my views are based on not-always-accurate news reports, so I might not know what I'm talking about.)

Raybar, you summed it up pretty well. I watched most of the trial and coverage. Just one thing--he did call the police but he didn't wait for them to get there.
