Okay, one pet peeve of mine is folks who write long posts on forums and it's one long block of text. Don't schools teach paragraphing anymore?
Another thing is that I've learned that is that cursive is barely taught in schools anymore. Kids mainly only learn to print. And not only that, but they have problems reading cursive!!! I think that's insane. Or have I become an old fuddy duddy?

They are writing as if they are speaking, and don't seem to understand that spoken and written language are different. If they do read it prior to posting, they understand what it means because they just wrote it. Comprehension may be difficult for others -- or even for the writer if he sees it again a few days later. Re: cursive --- Someone was commenting on this at a small party recently. No, they don't seem to be teaching cursive handwriting much any more, at least not in some schools. I see this at work all the time. We have a couple of girls who only print. It's neat and legible, so I really have no complaint. But they could not possibly write cursive with their fist-like grip on the pen.

And mainly I just don't read them. As far as printing, I would have no complaints reading it, either. To me, it's really the principle of the thing. Cursive is really an art form. It can be beautiful and something that should be learned if nothing else, for its own sake. And how in the world do these people sign their checks or anything else? Makes it much easier to copy it fraudulently. And really, it's got to take much longer to write in print than in cursive. Shorthand is really a type of cursive, but that's about obsolete now, too, I realize, with folks doing their own letters and so on themselves on their own computers (although there are still those out there with ancient minds which I had unfortunately the "opportunity" to deal with). What do graphologists do with printing, I wonder.

On the Zimmerman trial yesterday, there was a young woman still in high school on the stand who was handed a letter to read. She tried to read it but then said she could not because she can't read cursive. I don't know what world I'm living in anymore.
Can someone please explain to me why cursive is not being taught in school anymore?
