Saw the movie “Searching” yesterday. As far as I know, it’s the first and only social media movie made.
The entire film takes place on laptop and mobile phone screens. It’s a murder mystery that unfolds using Facebook, FaceTime, Google Sheets, Tumblr, Instagram, Venmo, YouTube and more. Which may sound boring, watching a full movie on various screens. but it’s incredibly well done – better than most films or TV series these days. I can’t even imagine trying to write the script.
There are shows that use computers and the internet as integral parts of their plot (“Mr Robot”, etc.), but in “Searching”, the programs that run on computers and phones ARE the plot.
CAVEAT: I’m not sure how tech-savvy you have to be to enjoy this film. I’ve been working in the computer software field since 1991 and I still spend at least 30 hours per week online between laptops and mobile phones. So maybe I’m not the best judge. But I’ve seen some reviews where the reviewer proclaimed that their grandparents (people my age), who didn’t know much about computers, really enjoyed the move anyway. So I’m thinking that even if you’ve never used Skype or Instagram or whatever, you will still probably enjoy the film. And maybe learn a lot about what the grand-kids are talking about. LOL

Even if you never use a computer, your life and personal info are out there somewhere, for those who know where to look. I had lost track of an aunt several years ago. Yesterday I found her current address and phone number online. She not only doesn't use a computer, but she also doesn't even own a cell phone. Yet everything about her life - property owned, police record (none), where she used to live, etc., are all available online.
The only way to completely hide is to not only avoid electronics, but not to own property, don't have a bank account or credit card, don't have utility bills, don't own a car, etc. In other words, go live in a cave somewhere. Not worth the effort. 8->
