Yeah, crazy. But this isn't new. I've seen the same thing in one of those Jail/prisoner shows. They do that along with illegal tattoos prisoners do. Just wonder why so-called normal people do this. Why? Ignorance? Don't care about oneself? Just can't figure it out.

She is quoted as saying, "“I have plenty of people who try to bring me down because of the choices I’ve made to my body, but that’s just it; it’s my body,” she told Daily Mail Australia."
Right. It's her body and she can do whatever she wants to it. But you can quote me as saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and my eyes find her appearance disgusting.

But the real question is, and I don't know for sure what you and Deb really feel about that, which is don't they care about going blind? I mean....total ignorance. I personally don't care what she wants to do--doesn't affect me personally--but as a human being who at least cares about what happens to other people--I ask. I mean, what makes people do such a thing? That's what I want to know. Not, oh, hell, that's her problem. Is this not part of critical thinking to find out why people do weird things. Have we lost that?

When I see a lot of tatoos and/or piercings, especially on the face, I wonder if the person is suffering from some deep psychological problems. Part of it is just fashion trends. Lots of people have a few tatoos. And sometimes I think they have over done it a bit, and that's fine. But tatoos and piercings and plastic surgery to the point of making yourself into a freak seems symtomatic of something serious.
Just guessing since I have no professional expertisa here, but perhaps it's similar to anarexia where someone has nearly staved herself to death and still thinks she's too fat. Or people who cut themselves or bang their heads against the wall. I suspect that they are really unhappy, need help, and aren't getting (or even seeking) any.

Thank you, Raybar
Any other thoughts, anyone? Maybe some of you think it's perfectly fine; just what's in right now.

Lily,
You're exactly right on that -- my first thought was about the possibility of going blind. Why would anyone sane take such a risk?
I think people who do things like this have psychological problems. Some form of body dysmorphia, maybe? If she thinks this improves her appearance -- on some level she has to believe something is wrong with her natural appearance.
This is also a very permanent alteration. That's why I have never approved of tatoos. If a person grows and decides it no longer suits a purpose; it's difficult to get rid of them.
A lot of it is that people are lemmings and will follow any trend set by celebrities. They began getting tatoos en masse (in the 90's) and dumb bunnies followed suit.
It's so very unattractive and oddly, they seem to realize it too. Why is it when anyone is putting together a bridal party, covering up tatoos becomes an issue. They know that when one truly gets dressed up -- a tattoo ruins the look.
Did you ever watch a show called,"Say yes to the dress"? These women will go try on dresses worth thousands and their tatoos totally make them appear cheap. I could never work in a bridal salon. My face is too expressive when I see something that ruins the look of something beautiful.
Anyhow -- getting your eyeballs tattooed is a new outrage. That can't be covered up for a special occasion --Debutante

Lily - I don't think that there's a one-size-fits-all answer. Sometimes I think that the purpose of "style" is simply to look different, even if different is ugly. Sometimes people just want to be noticed. Sometimes they are punishing themselves with pain. You can share group identity by looking like the people in a group. Outlaw gangs and such often have a "membership" tattoo, as so do "lawful" groups like the Marines. 1960s there were males who had obscene tattoos done on their hands and faces in hopes of being kept out of the draft.
Many "style" fads are painful, some potentially harmful, and some can even kill. Me, I'm even upset when I see women in high heels. They look so uncomfortable and unattractive. As far as I can tell, their only function is to make women trip when running from the monsters in movies. 8->
