Has anyone here or used to be here ever participate in a debate forum? The specific one I've found which looks really interesting, if only to read if not feeling confident enough to actually participate in, is Debate.com.

Lily,
It depends on what you're looking for -- if you're talking about formal rules and procedures you can probably brush up with a library book. But I don't think an online forum would be that much a stickler for rules anyway. I'd wait for a topic I knew something about and then jump in and wing it. You'll find out soon enough how much they stick to formal rules then.

Maybe look at the website before you comment. That might alone answer your questions.
Let me add this: it's not about RULES! It's about can you make an intelligent argument for any type topic.

debate.com displays a menu of various types of web sites. Clicking on a menu option produces a list of sites.
Which particular site are you looking at?

All I've ever done was click on Debate.com. Whatever you get with that, is what I've gotten. But seriously, that's just diverting the issue. In reality, FACTS is just about finished if it isn't already. Even some of the folks who used to be here and peeked in recently, don't want to be here. It's an embarrassment. I'd really like to keep up with some of you. What would you all (whoever is left) would you think of going to (I know you all have a place already and FACTS is at this point just a hobby). I mean seriously. Any other suggestions?
You can PM me if you prefer.

Besides, as I have said already, I am just interested in viewing debates, and to see how they're presented and handled as far as presented and handles by arguments.
I have to really say in appreciation that being on FACTS all these years has really taught me so much, I can't even say enough how much you all have stretched my thinking. I will always know for an absolute fact that how I think you all have have really turned me around so much. And when I get positive responses from some of my posts (on other forums ) it's because of what I've learned here over the years. I know I started off as very aggressively mad at some of you. I apologize for that--especially to you, Fred, I know I was really mean in calling you names way back then. You must be a Buddhist at heart, because you're so steady and strong. I guess it's true when the say that bad times either make or break you. And obviously, it's made you a very strong person.
I do have feelings for Bob, but I'm afraid he will never just accept life as it is. Looking for excitement all the time can never take the place of the contentment of the here and now. You can always find something to be angry about always, that never ends. Let the living take that over while you're still here and now to experience the more sweetness of living while you can.
Raybar, you know how to live.
Fred, as I've said you've got your act together and you've always had.
Mcans, I think maybe Bob needs more friends than an adversary.
Deb, I honestly don't understand you, and then maybe I do. It's the war you see against the Mayflower people and everyone else. I do know that times will change--eventually. But we both will be likely be dead by then. But that's okay with me.

Lily,
Funny you should say that about the "Mayflower people". I've only known one person in my life who claimed to be descended from someone who arrived on the Mayflower. It was an old boyfriend of my daughter - and the fellow didn't have the proverbial "pot" or "the window to throw it out of". In fact, I was glad when she got rid of him because I thought he was worthless. But she was in her "saving" phase (most women go through that stupidity where they find some "cause" they think needs redemption.)
I am not altogether sure this mope was telling the truth about that anyway.
However, I do know that not all people descended from early settlers have money despite what a lot of people might think. One of my first cousins is actually descended (on his father's side) from Sir William Berkeley, the first governor of Virginia. Yes, the family had money (supposedly) until the stock market crash in 1929. So although my cousin's father had vague memories of a family fortune lost -- my cousin was raised as a regular kid and has spent his entire life working for a living like everyone else. He's not going to see a fortune in this lifetime unless he wins the lottery.
So I don't have any great loyalty to the billionaires in the country. I do have great loyalty to those (as the FBI employee in the Inspector General's report referred to as"poor to middle class, uneducated, lazy POS that think he (Trump) will magically grant them jobs for doing nothing")
How arrogant these people are to believe that there is a caste system in the United States. And that they somehow rank at the top of it. Those"poor and middle class" (THE NERVE OF THEM!!) wanted to vote for someone who might get some jobs to come back to America so that they could eat and pay their bills.
WHAT RIGHT HAVE THE POOR AND MIDDLE CLASS TO WANT JOBS? TO WANT TO EAT OR PAY THEIR BILLS?
DAMN THESE AMERICANS! DON'T THEY REALIZE LETTING IN MORE IMMIGANTS IS MORE IMPORTANT!
*note sarcasm*
My family was fortunate in that we never had problems in this area. But a lot of people did have the probelm. And that ATTITUDE expressed in today's missive by this FBI employee has pissed me off big time.
I have never worked for a politician in my life. Come next presidential election -- I am going to volunteer to work for Trump. I have my talents. They tell me I can turn a phrase when I've a mind...

Yes, Lily, FACTS has had a declining membership for years now as members drifted away, or lost interest, or whatever. And we have no connection to any publication or organization that might be a source of new members. I regret this, and miss the lively discussions we used to have on a wide variety or topics. Nothing lasts forever, of course, but the few of us still posting can continue as long as we have anything to say.
If you are really done with FACTS, I hope you will stop by and say hello occasionally, or email me (address in the member list) from time to time. Molly and I both have old friends who we never see any more, but with whom we have remained in contact for decades.
I would appreciate it if you would email or PM me with link to any forums you find that you think might interest me. I have, so far, not found any that I want to read.

Raybar, I have a feeling that we probably in the main are not interested in the same type forums. But if I do find something that I think might interest you, I will certainly let you know about it.
In any case, I will definitely take you on with your invitation to keep in touch. Thank you. I will do that.

Aw, shucks, (blush, blush).
Much of my training comes from growing up among Texas evangelicals. Except for that whole eating pork thing, not much different than living among the Taliban or such. I don't mind debating a subject, but name-calling and temper tantrums can lead to physical violence around people like that. I have actually been physically threatened for asking questions about their religion. Tends to make you go slow and calm, over the years. 8->

It would be something like a child of abuse learning to how to avoid the belt. I suppose it's how to think about it in the end that counts?
