Thought it might be fun to have a permanent thread to share what the Factoids like to hear and watch. Another forum I frequent has a similar thread with hundreds of posts. It's a great way to discover lots of gems. Though I like a whole range of music, sometimes a silly video really cheers me up. From the same group who gave us, " What Does the Fox Say", here's Ylvis playing Mr. Toot. Enjoy! So what videos or music would you like to share?

We saw "Into the Woods" last weekend. We've always enjoyed the original stage production with Bernadette Peters so had high hopes for this film. We enjoyed it for the most part. Emily Blunt was lovely and Johnny Depp had a nice cameo as a fairly menacing Wolf. My biggest surprise was when my mother went ga-ga over Chris Pine, playing Prince Charming. Here's a video of one of his funnier moments:

We have Into the Woods on a "viewer" from the Academy.
It's listed at 125 minutes, which would include the credits, and which is not an excessive length. It looked good, the actors were fine, and so on, but the pacing -- it seemed to dragged on forever, and we gave up on it before getting to the end. I think the trouble was the songs, which I didn't think were very good, and which brought the story to a halt for minutes at a stretch repeatedly.
Maybe I'll give it another chance

Raybar, I must admit that I enjoyed the original Broadway production with Bernadette Peters much better than the film. The wardrobe/set certainly aren't as fancy, it's certainly paced better than the film. If you can watch the original DVD I recommend it. The film, on the other hand, felt more forced in many ways. I think it could definitely have been better.

Maybe I’m just old, but the music in recent musicals (and films) has been very forgettable. Most of the time, the singers just seem to be talking funny rather than singing a song. “Into the Woods” (the film) has some very clever word play, but the tunes fell out of my brain as soon as the credits began to roll. Yes. Some great acting and singing, but overall not my fave.

OK, I listen to a great deal of German, French, and Japanese rock. Since most people don't, I thought I'd post some of that. 8->
This is one from my favorite Japanese Group, Aural Vampire. They are an electronic "Dark wave" band. Dark wave began in the late 1970s as New Wave with dark lyrics. In Japan, this often merged with electronic music.
PS - I've never posted a music video here before. I'm just pasting the YouTube URL. Is that the correct method? I guess I'll see. LOL.

I seemed to have killed this thread with my Darkwave video. Sigh. How about a perky little number by my favorite French rock group, The Plasticines. An oldie, but still fun.

Fred, you could never kill a thread. In fact, you inspired this song:

Ah, the beauty of 'random' threads. I'd never seen that Japanese video before, Fred, though I'd heard the song. Loved her vampire-bat-steed. Here's an indie band I like. Heard them several years ago during SXSW (on KUT I think):

Gifthorse - I'm amazed that you have heard an Aural Vampire song somewhere. I came upon them by a torturous path. I was reading a National Geographic article about some scientists at the South Pole. One of them like to play Japanese electronic music, which I had never heard of. So I went to Wikipedia and found a list of Japanese electronic music bands, then went to YouTube and sampled them. And that's how I first heard Aural Vampire.
Here's another band I accidentally found: The Black Angels. They're an Austin band that hardly anyone has heard of, but their songs are everywhere - in TV shows, video games, etc. This song was played for the closing credits of the HBO series "True Detective", episode 1.

Hey Fred! I have not heard Dark Angels before. I really should watch ACL more often. As for Aural Vampire...I have a friends on LOTRO who are always sharing links to their latest 'favorite' songs while we play. I almost always click on the URL they share and listen to whatever it is while I grind the MMO. It may have even been the same music video, but since I only listened to the music at the time, the images were new to me.

Lily - Domo arigato.
I think it's fun to listen to pop music from other nations and cultures. Sometimes they cross over into the US market (ABBA, Rammstein, etc.) but there a hundreds of wonderful songs out there that we never hear. Amazon offers free MP3 samplers, usually about 400 songs on any given day, and sometimes there are entire albums of free foreign music. I've picked up stuff this way from Africa, Bulgaria, Turkey, South America and more. Just go to Amazon MP3 downloads and search for "free" or "sampler". You have to install an app from them to get albums instead of downloading songs one-by-one, but hey, it's free music. 8-D

Thanks, Fred. Hiroshima is billed here as the most popular Asian-American band in Hawaii. They just were here for a concert.
I'm leery about downloading MP3 songs from Amazon. A few years ago I did that and all my programs got converted into Windows Media files. I was totally panicked until I thought about using Restore to an earlier date. I did that and all was well again. Whew! Anyway, I subsequently found out that it happened to other people as well. Maybe it's different now, but I'm still concerned about doing it. I do listen to songs on their cloud when certain CDs I purchase come with that feature.

I assume that when you say "all my programs", you mean your music and such? For example, it didn't convert your Word files? Right? Anyway, I've been downloading free Amazon and bought Amazon MP3s since 1998 or so and have never had any problems.
My computer sees all my MP3s as Windows Media files and makes play lists that I never use and so forth, but I don't care. That doesn't prevent me from listening to them on the computer or loading them on an iPod or phone or whatever. As long as it stays an MP3, it's universal.

I'm not sure I can explain this very well. Yes, Microsoft Word became a Windows Media program. As far as the files on Word, I wouldn't know. I couldn't open Word to look at them. I know it sounds weird and I would question my sanity if it didn't happen to at least one other person I know. Thank goodness I thought about the Restore to an earlier date feature. At least I know how to get my computer out of trouble, like the time I was hit with a Ransoncrime virus and was able to get to Symantec for help.

I had never heard of this woman before, but she won an alternative rock Grammy and that peaked my interest. I'm fond of alternative rock. And weird videos. 8->

Beautiful music and love the photos of Hawaii as well, Lily, thank you.
I've been listening to Joni Mitchell a lot lately since I'd heard she was in the ICU. Hoping she'll recover her health soon.

Oh, my gosh. I hadn't heard that about Joni MItchell, or about her disease.
I didn't see the youtube you downloaded, Dawn. I guess because it takes a while and I actually downloaded the same one! Of course, I deleted it. That one is really memorable, isn't it? I'll add another one of hers.
Love this one, too.

OK, I'm fond of the odd and bizarre, tis true. This song is nothing special, but the girl in the video is incredible. Caveat: it's both disturbing and captivating.

Thanks Fred. The song is okay. I'm not a big Sia fan. The young girl is obviously very talented, but I find these Sia videos difficult to watch. The one called “Elastic Heart,” with Shia LaBeouf, seemed to suggest some kind of pedophilia. All three are a bit too creepy for me, but I'm old and not very hip at all.
