Binge-watched “Stranger Things”, season 3 this weekend. Not a spoiler, but much of the 8 episodes takes place in a 1985 mall. For those of you old enough to remember wandering malls in 1985 or even being a mall-rat teen at that time, the visuals of long-forgotten store fronts alone is worth watching the series for. Plus, there are many other 1985 cultural references, such as New Coke and the 1980's background music. Lest you think that ST3 is a mall documentary, yes, there are monsters and magic galore, too. Lots of horror, lots of fighting and lots of comedy. Not a perfect production, but entertaining and better than ST2.
I’m not a professional fighter, but I would like to point out that grabbing someone and throwing them into a wall or onto a table or whatever is not an efficient way to hurt them. It’s a popular sight in super-hero movies, like in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where powerful beings throw each other into things and break lots of stuff. Makes for visual drama, I guess, as bits of wall, furniture, etc. fly around. But it’s a very stupid way to fight. Just hit the foe and get it over with. I officially declare throwing people to be a tired movie cliché and something to be avoided at all costs in the future. 8->
Speaking of Marvel, ST3 copies another thing from the MCU. There’s a “prediction” scene in the middle of the credits in the last episode. Sets up things for what might be ST season 4. So don’t turn off the show until you’ve seen that part at the end of Ep 8.
