Lily,
This morning my cellphone issued an alert about poisonous gas being emitted by that erupting volcano in the islands. Apparently, it's endangering all the islands. What, if anything, is being done to protect the people? Are you okay -- have they given you any instructions?
Stay safe. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Debutante, would you please look at a map.
The volcano is on the "Big Island." Lily is on O'ahu. I don't know exactly where Lily's house is, but the volcano is 215 miles from Honolulu (per Google Maps), so it's safe to assume that any poisonous gas emitted from the volcano will be extremely dissipated if it reaches O'ahu at all.
Lily, if that's incorrect, please let us know.

Raybar,
Thanks for telling me that. I was always lousy at the map portion of geography. I only passed because I was good at remembering stuff like chief exports and agricultural products.
I hope she's okay -- that cellphone alert feature scared me.

Don't worry, I made that same mistake a week earlier.

Sorry, all. My head had been so far afield lately. My dad hurt his back and I've been worried sick about him becoming an opioid addict. I think I have it under control now especially when I finally had to ask if he really wanted me to find him dead in the morning. I think that finally worked. Gee whiz, he's 91 but still wants to live.
Deb, no. The volcano poison doesn't reach here on Oahu. And actually not most of the Big Island as well. But it looks like that's not so widely known and some tourists, especially on cruises, are being steered away from the entire Big Island. Really dumb.
Deb, I have three more episodes of Ten Days in The Valley left. And since I've paid for them, I might as well watch the rest. Have you?

Lily,
No. Ten Days In The Valley ended up getting erased by my son. He took a dislike to it (I never know what sets him off) and I wasn't going to push it on a series I wasn't enjoying all that much anyway.
These days I am watching channel 465 in Chicago [Destination America] which runs all kinds of paranormal series back to back. Most of them are reenactments of supposedly "true" stories and I find those interesting.
I don't bother with the contrived "ghost hunting" programs where they get a team together and go to a supposedly haunted location and try to provoke activity.
There's one show I think Joan would like -- it's about near death experiences. They have people who have been declared dead (one was brain dead for over an hour) and then revived tell their story about their experiences. That's interesting too.
I have the DVR constantly recording because this stuff goes on all night long and I won't stay up late at night watching creepy stuff all alone. I only watch during daylight hours. Lol!
I don't know if they have this channel in Hawaii but if they do -- you've got to see it. You wouldn't believe some of the stories these people tell of how they end up getting haunted.
Some of these people do really dumb things and bring it on themselves, others are just poor mopes who blunder into a situation unawares.
Anyway -- if this stuff is at all true there's way more of this stuff out there than I would have thought.

Lily,
Oh geeze, what a jerk I am! I forgot to say I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm not thinking clearly-- it's 1:16AM my time and I just checked the board on my way to bed and saw your post.
I know how busy you must be. Caring for elderly parents isn't the easiest thing because they aren't used to the role reversal. I know I used to have the darnest time with my mother and mother-in-law.
It was harder to care for them, than it was to care for my two kids when they were little. My kids at least did what I told them. But if a 90 year old person decides they don't want to take their medication,or eat for three days-- it's not easy to change their minds.
Just remember to take care of yourself too. Because that's the part that always gets lost in the shuffle -- taking care of the caretaker.

Lily - The worst thing about pill addiction is running out. The pills themselves aren't that dangerous, unless they're combined with other stuff. Most people who die do usually so because they became addicted, couldn't get more pills and so switched over to heroin and other street drugs and started injecting powerful unknown drugs directly into their veins. Or they started adding lots and lots of alcohol to their pills to make them last longer.
Oh, yeah, and there's that whole constipation thing. Already likely a problem for a 91-year-old. 8->
Anyway, I expect opioids to be replaced someday by other things, but, for a 91-year-old, like your father, who is probably not going to be operating heavy machinery or wandering the streets looking for heroin, pill addiction is a minor problem. (I wish they'd just go ahead and make the pills easier to get. Fewer deaths that way than from street drugs. But that's just me. )
