I really don't go to the movies much anymore because of my knee problems (the slanting floor of the theaters make it really difficult for me). So I really haven't seen any of the nominated films.
Of the ones I've seen trailers for -- the only ones that appeal to me (that I will purchase when they come out on DVD are "Phantom Thread" and "Dunkirk").
I probably won't watch because Hollywood people irritate me. If Ellen Degeneres were hosting I might be tempted -- but I can't stand Jimmy Kimmel.
I will watch some of the red carpet stuff just to see the dresses.

Yeah. Semi-obliged. Industry town and all that. I really don't care about any of the award shows, but I'll need to have some idea what people are talking about tomorrow. Starts in 12 minutes.

I mostly only go to theaters to see movies that really need a big screen for the visuals. Like the Marvel action movies, Star Wars, etc. The "dialog" movies, I wait until they flow down to cable. So, for example, out of this year's 9 Best Pic options, I'd only seen 2. Not much point in watching the awards when you haven't seen most of the films.
Plus, any interesting acceptance speeches (or whatever) are available on news sites and internet the next day. So I skip the awards every year.
