I always said that they should do another "Karate Kid" (original version) sequel because it would have been interesting to see what Danny La Russo did with all the philosophy he learned from Mr. Miyagi after he was an adult.
That day has finally arrived in the form of a ten part series which will be on something called YouTube red. I have no idea what that is, but since this series supposedly deals with the reopening of the "Cobra Kai" karate studio by "Johnny" and an ultimate confrontation with a student trained by Danny in the Miyagi method -- I'm in. It's the original cast reprising their roles after all.
I can't imagine how this will play out. Johnny and Daniel seemed to reconcile at the end of "The Karate Kid". And Johnny seemed to reject the Cobra Kai philosophy. How will the writers explain the fact that he has gone back to that way of thinking...
I will, of course, be missing the charm of Pat Morita every step of the way...
But time marches on and I imagine it will open up with Miyagi being deceased.
Details can be found on YouTube. It is unclear when this series will begin.
Will anyone say, "Wax on, wax off?"

The trend in TV these days is to break off more and more into multiple networks. And you have to buy them each separately. 8-<
I'm a big TV and movie fan, and I simply can't afford to pay for HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc., plus all the various YouTube pay-for-play channels. Especially since there may be only one series that I want to see on a network, like "The Handmaid's Tale" on Hulu.
Once upon a time, basic cable networks only did reruns of broadcast TV shows. Then they began to produce their own original content. HBO once was a almost pure movie channel, but evolved major cash cows like "The Sopranos" and "Game of Thrones", which attracted subscribers and then HBO could sell on videotape.
And so on. I'm not sure where this will all end up, but I doubt that there's enough market out there for 30 different pay-to-play networks. Of course, some people just sign up for HBO when a new season of "Game of Thrones" starts and drop it when the season is finished. Or wait and buy the series online or DVD or whatever.
Anyway, original programming on YouTube is just one more cause for concern. And the more things cost, the more common cable theft or black market DVDs will become. Sigh.

Hi Fred:
I agree. I only hope I will be able to sign up short term. I won't need this service past the ten episodes.
But since it is something I always thought about [and seriously considered plots in my mind especially when Ralph Macchio was on dancing with the stars] I feel almost obligated to tune in and see if the plot they came up with is better than the one I imagined.
But you're right -- my daughter was interested in "Fuller House" [only because she watched "Full House" religiously as a child] but eventually decided she didn't have the time. But again, that would be another channel.
I did read that there was heavy competition among these various alternative channels to obtain this "Cobra Kai" series. Weirdly, it is being produced by Will Smith [who probably figured out nobody really wanted to see his kid in a remake and so he's going back to the original]. He must have bought the rights to the entire franchise.
