Because you have winter. In Austin, our winter is like most other people's fall. And it only lasts 6 weeks or so. If you didn't have snow and ice outside, no one would do winter sports there either. 8-D

Last week, Austria's biggest newspaper ran a headline complaining that Anna Veith "only" won a silver medal and "lost" to an athlete from Czechia of all places! Several Olympics ago, a U.S. athlete was asked how he (she?) felt having "only" won the silver. The reported quickly regretted asking because the athlete told him (her?) in no uncertain terms that - it's an honor to even appear at the Olympics - it's an honor to represent your country - it's an honor to win silver - asking such a question indicates that the reporter, besides being a raging asshole (the athlete was a little more polite), shouldn't be covering the Olympics because he apparently knows nothing about sportsmanship |
