Most of us are so stunned, I know I was.
They were two young and beautiful people. She was like an angel on earth. And he, a double amputee who accomplished so much in the world of sports, which is thought of for just the able bodied.
They were doing so much for those less fortunate. What in this world happened? Is this an illusion we live in? A cruel joke?

Deb -
There's been quite a bit in the news about this.
You might want to Google Oscar Pistorius.

I have a dark fascination with this murder, as many others apparently do...so, here is my take on what probably happened:
Both of these people had very strong egos. and was what most likely caused the initial attraction. She (Reeva) was attracted to the "bad boy". She early on displayed a belief to act on her instincts without considering the other persons possible retaliation... and in a house loaded with deadly weapons.
He (Oscar) must have a strong sense of personal motivation and a sensitivity to what might hurt his self-esteem. His determination to succeed showed up in his winning so many contests, both in the legal and sport arenas.
OK, now here is what I think might have happened...Oscar was pissed off and in a jealous rage over something that Reeva may or may not have done. There was a brutal argument and he lost his temper. Reeva tried to escape by barricading and locking herself in a bathroom. Oscar in his rage, fired 4 shots through the door.

Would steroids increase his rage?
Also, seems to be more domestic violence than I can ever remember. Males, especially, seem to have a need to pick on creatures that they can control. Younger males (and females) appear to have a need to pick on those weaker and maybe a bit different in some way. Babies and animals (dogs & cats) are also targets.

I had been writing about this subject (good versuses evil) on our other board before that board suddenly disappeared.
Had been wondering if evil is inbred or if this cruel and sadistic tendency can be reversed.

Yes, steroids increase rage. There is even a name for it--'roid rage (at first I thought it was hemorroids[!!] but it refers to steroids). And no, I do not for one second believe there is more domestic violence today, it is that in the last 40 years or so, women refused to accept it as their lot in life. We talk about it. That's the difference. What was once kept a secret is now out in the open.

Thanks for informing about the rage brought on by steroids. I hadn't been aware of it.
As for more domestic violence today not being the case, I was just judging it by what my early life was like. As for my mom and dad, they didn't seem to have anything except a loving relationship. My mom use to complain at rare times about my dad's gambling. He loved to sit down to a game of poker or pinoccle (sp) with his buddies but that was about all I remember. My brother used to tease me. That was about it. Even with my male boy friends, I can't remember any incident of being abused or physically hurt. Even with my husband and two male children, I can't remember anything but a loving relationship.
So, you can probably understand why there seems to me to be so much more violence in our society today.

My problems with the male sex seemed to stem from being attracted to males who turned out to be attracted to their own sex (then or eventually), or in one heart breaking incident, I fell in love with my artist/boss who unfortunately just happened to be married. But through all those years there was NO physical violence.

I was also brought up in a home where my dad would have cut off his hands before using them against my mother. When I was in college I began to make friends of other backgrounds, & they had other experiences.
I remember my mother telling me that even shiksas wanted a Jewish husband because they didn't drink or beat women. That was their reputation. You know I was a child in the 1950's. I guess you may have heard similar growing up? Of course, I never hear anyone say that anymore!!!

I remember hearing something like that. But living my early dating days in the East Village made it hard to find or even try to find someone with those traits. Most of the males couldn't care less about any religious traditions. It was live and let live. And follow your own gut intinct. Just don't intentional hurt anyone or any living creature. Enjoy your beer and enjoy each other.
