And now that it's done....LOL....it was kind of fun! For some reason, my mind did not wrap around the fact that it is your body positioning that makes this thing go and not so much your hands on the handlebars. My sister is staying with us for a short winter vacation and she also got to ride one today. She was quite good at using the thing. Mike got us tickets for today's ride, a benefit for a Veterans charity. After a short instruction period, we headed out for a 20 minute ride through a nearby neighborhood. Our instructions and trial runs were done in the large parking lot of one of our community rec centers. It was quite a sight to see a dozen people plus three instructors on the personal conveyance vehicles motoring along in your neighborhood. People waved, but doggies barked...apparently they really did not like them, even though they are almost totally quiet. Maybe the next time this sort of event takes place here, and there is a Segway Club here in our community, I'll give it another try.

Sounds like fun. I'm almost close enough - not quite, but almost - to ride one to work.
There's a video on You Tube or VideoBash or somewhere of people loosing control of their Segways. But they were all young guys screwing around, so no surprise.

It's really easy to fall if you don't pay attention that's for sure! My legs were sore when I finished....tension ....who would imagine that just standing could be so stressful....LOLOLOL. Not sure I'd want you riding to work, Ray...even if you were close enough....how the heck do you carry stuff..... . We all had radio type receivers in packs on each Segway so we could hear instructions from the leader about where to turn.....but there wasn't enough room for my water bottle, my visor, purse, cell phone.....LOLOLOL. Mike is breathing easy since I really don't want one of my own....might be a bitch to use golfing. No place to carry clubs, balls, tees.... ;D Have you used these things?

Problem is, these things are dangerous for pedestrians. As it is here, bicycles ride on the sidewalks and mainly come up behind one without signaling. I only remember once where someone on a bicycle rang its bell behind me. Otherwise, one step to the right or left on the sidewalk and without the pedestrian knowing and it's all over--I mean all over the sidewalk. Geeze, one lady already died because of that.
Anyway, just saying there's really no safe place for Segways out in public. They're popular here. I suppose one day "legs" will be outlawed as being in the way.

Very cool. I've always wanted to try one.
There is a ski area two states over, in the summer time they have other activities. Such as off-road segway hike, a tree top obstacle course, and one of the longest zip lines down the mountain. I tried the zip line last year, maybe will do segways this year.

I was scared trying that Segway, but I'm petrified about trying a zip line! Did you enjoy the adventure, Marc? Is it in New Hampshire or Vermont? Mike and I haven't been to New England for a few years now....maybe this spring....but probably not to zip line....

They are indeed very quiet, Lily and I can understand how if they are used on sidewalks, problems can result. Around here, they are ridden where golf carts ride.....on specific cart paths or in specific lanes on roads within the community. We have over 80 miles where these conveyances can be used.

New Hampshire, a place called Gunstock: www.gunstock.com/summer/The second part of the big zip line goes over the parking lot. Got to see someone go over when we arrived. My sisters were nervous, and I'm not big on highs, but it was fun.
